Flexo Sustainable : Earth Day 2014
A Green History Label Impressions’ Environmentally Conscious Past, Present & Future There are companies with a relatively new sustainability program in place. There are companies with plans to implement a sustainability program. And there are companies with no intentions of putting together a sustain- ability program. Orange, CA based Label Impressions Inc. is none of these. “Sustainability is important to our company and has been since early 2006,” says company President and CEO Jeff Salis- bury. “Just as with our approach to process improvement, we feel that in order to move toward a more sustainable company we must first understand our current process and the options that are available to us. We spend ample time on both. ” EARLY SUSTAINABILITY Label Impressions was founded by Jeff ’s father, Ted Salis- bury, in 1988. At its inception, the company had one flexo press, a step and repeat camera and basic platemaking equipment, all fit snug inside a 900 sq. ft. space. Today, Label Impressions operates eight machines, running two full shifts, and is in the process of expanding into a 30,000 sq. ft. space. Jeff says that pursuing a sustainability program—one that’s beneficial to the environment and company—requires careful consideration and examination. “ What we have found is that the answers here are not easy—mainly because the questions are hard. They are often unclear and constantly changing,” he says. “So we focus on the questions and what is available. “In 2006 we immediately moved to Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certification, carbon neutral and wind pow- ered status,” he continues. Then we found that the answers were not that easy, so we took a step back and began to dig deeper—something we still do today.” MEMBER SPOTLIGHT Label Impressions Inc.
