Flexo Sustainable : Year-End 2012
A Pioneer of Green Printing Continues to Innovate PaperWorks’ Industries Publishes First Sustainability Report By Steve Deering PaperWorks Industries, a leading North American in- tegrated full-service packaging provider, announced the release of its first annual, public sustainability report titled “Sustainability: It’s A Part of our Heritage. ” As reported in the February 2012 issue of FLEXO Magazine, PaperWorks Industries has a long history of green printing and the report illustrates the firm’s pioneering of profitable sustainability practices. The report measures the company ’s performance from 2010 to 2011, regarding its economic, social and environ- mental initiatives — and the results are promising. Included is an overview of the challenges and opportunities facing PaperWorks, a conglomerate made from several different companies and two paper mills. The strategies and goals offered by the report, available online at http://www.paper- wrks.com/paperworks-sustainability-reporting, will help PaperWorks cultivate its leadership in sustainable packaging. This Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) member boasts more than 1,600 employees and 16 North American manufacturing locations, including flexo plants in Baldwins- ville, NY, and Greensboro, NC. The firm’s mills offer quality coated and uncoated recycled paperboard, which manufac- ture nearly 300,000 tons a year primarily for consumer pack- aged products. PaperWorks’ Philadelphia mill – which was one of the world’s largest papermaking plants in the 1860s – embodies 200 years of papermaking history. Currently, it op- erates the widest coated recycled boxboard-making machine in North America. The Philadelphia mill also has one of the most robust recycling facilities in the nation. This combination has proved fruitful for the company and its expressed respon- Map of PaperWorks’ locations. (© 2013 Google) www.flexomag.com yeaR enD 2012 Sustainable FLEXO 5
