FLEXO is PNEAC Publication of the Year The Printers’ National Environmental Assistance Center (PNEAC) recently named FLEXO Magazine as the winner of its 2012 Environmental Publication of the Year Award. Honors resulted from a four-part, August—No- vember 2011 series on “Calculating Your Flexo Faility ’s Carbon Footprint.” FLEXO is the parent title of Sustain- able FLEXO. The series covered Documenting Plant Sustainability Performance, Indirect Emissions from Purchased Elec- tricity, Direct Emissions and Indirect Emissions. Articles were coordinated by Doreen M. Monteleone, PhD, direc- tor of EHS and Special Projects at FTA and were a direct result of efforts of FTA’s Sustainability Committee. This marks the second time in recent history that FLEXO publications were selected for the PNEAC award. In 2009, Sustainable FLEXO—the magazine’s Internet quarterly captured the title. PNEAC’s Publication of the Year Award seeks to honor the best and most significant journal article, fact sheet, report or book that helps printers im- prove the environmental performance of their processes and products. Deb Jacobson, director of PNEAC and technical assistance program manager at the University of Illinois Sustainable Technology Center, said, “PNEAC is extremely pleased to recognize the excellent contribution that Dr. Monteleone and FLEXO magazine have made to advance the practice of green, sustainable practices within the printing industry.” She further noted, “Judges were impressed with how the winning series of articles provided such practical helpful advice to printers who want to determine the carbon footprint of their opera- tion, and use that objective information to measur- ably improve the environmental sustainability of their operations.” 6 FLEXO december 2011 www.flexography.org
