Flexo Sustainable : Fall 2014
FLEXO®: What are some sustainable initiatives at Target Labels & Packaging? Jenks: One of our main sustainability efforts is in our waste: We recy- cle our ink waste, and we focus on trimming back on any setup and run waste. We also recycle all materials that we can. FLEXO®: Do consumers care about a company’s sustainable efforts? Jenks: Consumers seem to care about sustainability and are always asking what we can do to help them become more sustainable. And we have sustainable product offerings to give the consumer. We can offer package modifications to create something that is more sustain- able. We also offer a wide variety of products that are Earth friendly. FLEXO®: Why should a consumer want to do business with a sustainability minded company? Jenks: We all need to make sure we are doing our part. Sustainability is a way to continue to make progress as a group. We all need to be on the same page and focus on new and innovative ways to make a difference. The only way consumers can accomplish this is if they work with a forward thinking company that has their needs and desires in mind FLEXO®: Talk about how Target Label got started. What are its values? Joshua Jenks: Target Labels and Packaging is a family owned com- pany focusing on adding value to its customers’ products. Our main focus is our team; we want our employees to continue to grow inside our company and in the community. We started as a small pressure sensitive label company in 2006 and since then we have seen consis- tent growth. FLEXO®: What are some important milestones in Target Label’s history? Jenks: We entered flexible packaging market in 2009 for short run narrow web printing. In 2011, we fully invested in lamination, wide web flexo printing, and converting. And earlier this year, we purchased a gear- less high speed Uteco press. FLEXO®: How big is the company now? Number of employees, presses, shifts? Jenks: We have had a growth pattern of 18 percent to 35 percent each year. We run two shifts and five presses with 35 employees, with lots of room for growth. FLEXO®: Where are Target Label’s primary markets? Jenks: Our primary markets are the food industry and supplements industry. We have focused on niche runs to include conception to launch, helped manage customers’ growth through detailed planning and ran multimillion piece runs for customers on a regular basis. FLEXO®: Talk about graphics quality at Target Label—its importance, challenges it presents, ways Target Label ensures high quality, prepress capabilities, etc. Jenks: Recently, we updated our graphics to use Esko’s Automation Engine.
